A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

I admit it, I’m a bit of a film addict.  Ever since that fateful day in 1977 when these words scrolled up the screen – ‘A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....’ I’ve been hooked and my latest joy is Guardians of the Galaxy 2  with superhero pirate, Guardian’s of the Galaxy, Peter Quill (Star Lord) fighting and joking his way through the baddies.

Anyway, it turns out that Peter Quill is half human and half alien, a mystery which unravels in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, much like the mystery of Luke Skywalker’s parentage is revealed in 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

Wonderful as they are, the above are fictional stories, they come and go, but there is one story that came and stayed, it began over 3,000 years ago, with a second major instalment 2,000 years ago and the series continues in the lives of missions of Christians worldwide.

The story is dramatic and powerful it goes like this:

‘In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things came
into being through him and without him not one thing came into being.
What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of
all people.  The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not
overcome it.’     (John 2: 1-5)

Script writers for heroic films need to get their ideas from somewhere!  For many years now, I and many others have been involved in the great story that God’s unravelling, and will conclude with the complete revelation of Jesus at the end of time. It’s a script that has a cast of mammoth proportions and maybe there’s space in it for you to be involved?  In fact, the next chapter of God’s story around Halifax (or further afield) may depend on you for some of its action, and we’re telling that story at a church near you – come and see if God’s great Kingdom story has a role for you to play.
