Summer of Hope comes to Southwark Cathedral

“The Summer of Hope event at Southwark Cathedral came at just the right moment for us as a community. In the face of so many things that we and many other people faced and are facing this year, the Christian message of hope is a vital one. The members of Mothers’ Union around the world are a sign of hope to families and communities, to the church and to society.”

The Very Reverend Andrew Nunn, Dean of Southwark

The Mothers’ Union Diocesan Presidents from both Southwark and London and members from neighbouring dioceses joined our Worldwide President Lynne Tembey and staff from the central headquarters to host our very own Summer of Hope event in the grounds of Southwark Cathedral.

Serving a selection of homemade goodies to visitors of the cathedral and members of the public, displays telling the stories of those who have benefitted through the work of Mothers’ Union around the world helped to inform those eating cake what our Summer of Hope Appeal was about.

The Dean of Southwark, The Very Reverend Andrew Nunn, expressed his gratitude to Mothers’ Union this week for hosting the event and said, “We were grateful to be drawn into this celebration of the hope we have in Christ, which will not disappoint”.

Mothers’ Union’s Worldwide President, Lynne Tembey, described what a privilege it was to be part of the event at Southwark, “It was great to see information and stories around the grounds. Stories of those who will benefit through our appeal. The event had a happy family feel,” she said.

The Summer of Hope is our summer appeal aiming to raise £125,000 for community projects in the UK and abroad. Mothers’ Union is encouraging members to host their very own barbecues, tea parties, cake and plant sales, fêtes, raffles, face painting and bouncy castles during the summer to help raise money for the appeal. No event is too large or too small and there is still time to get involved!
