Sermon on Rev 2:12-17 & Jn 6:30-40. Sun 3rd May 6:30pm

(1st slide is black)

Imagine the scene if you will, St Peter sitting behind his desk at the pearly gates. In quick succession 3 men arrive. Peter asks the first one why he is there. Well he said, "I had just arrived home from work, and climbed the 5 flights of stairs to my flat. When I got in, for some reason, I was convinced my wife was having an affair. I got really angry, so mad in fact that I picked up the fridge and threw it out of the window. This was all too much for my heart, and well here I am, but I'm really sorry that I was suspicious of my wife."

"Very well" said Peter, "In you go"

"Next"... [read more]

1 Corinthians 6:11-20 - Evening Sermon 18/1/09

(blank slide)

Introduction

One morning a vicar got up into the pulpit, and started the service: "There's something wrong with the microphone", "And also with you" replied the congregation.

As a rule I like to start my sermons with a funny story or joke. However, for this evening's sermon I wondered long and hard about it simply because of the serious nature of the passage from Corinthians before us. As you will have noticed when it was read, Paul's main theme is sexual immorality, and it is a subject I approach with a real degree of trepidation - it's embarrassing to talk about, there is a real danger of hitting raw nerves, and of upsetting people. If I do do this, please accept my most sincere apologies. However,... [read more]

Heaven - David MacGregor
Sunday 20th April 2008

Sermon 20/4/08 10:30 Service
Theme - What is Heaven Going to be Like?
Three men were travelling in a car when it was involved in a crash which killed all of them instantly. Naturally enough they found themselves outside the pearly gates standing in front of St Peter. He checked his records and welcomed them in. As they were going in, Peter explained that there was only one rule in heaven. You mustn't stand on the ducks. If you do, you will be chained to the most ugly woman in heaven for all eternity. Well there were ducks everywhere, on the grass, on the paths, in the gardens, in the houses, everywhere. Pretty soon the first man stood on a duck. Immediately St Peter appeared with the most ugly woman you ever saw, and chained her to him. The other... [read more]

Martyn Tinsley Science has defeated faith?
Sunday 12th March 2006

Verses for reading: Genesis 1:v1 - 2:v4 and John 1:v1-5 & v14

Introduction
My dad told me, that at the time he was a young lad, if someone had said that man would land on the moon, his friends would think he was utterly mad. But the fact is, that by the time my Dad was just 25, man had landed on the moon. Just one example of the rapid pace at which the World has advanced in this scientific age.
Surgeons can insert a thin tube through the skin, and into organs of the human body, for example the heart. A miniature video camera and instruments can be inserted into this tube to repair damage to the heart. After finishing, the only visible trace that there has been an operation at all, is a small hole that easily... [read more]

Kathia Shoesmith - All Religions lead to God?
Sunday 12th February 2006

Verses for reading: Romans 12:1-18 and John 14:1-11

Father, would you open our hearts and minds to receive your wisdom, knowledge and understanding
Amen.
In our morning services, we are currently running a series of sermons based on the book by Michael Green "You can't be serious" - 12 popular reasons people give for avoiding Jesus.
Today we are looking at the one which claims that all religions are pretty much the same, they all lead to God and therefore it doesn't really matter which one you follow, Christianity being only one of many. It sounds good, it's very PC, tolerant, open-minded, but is it true? A couple of weeks ago we saw that what we believe does matter, being sincere in our beliefs is not enough and actually is of no use if the belief itself is wrong.... [read more]
